William Murphy

Senior Fellow and Co-founder

William Murphy (Brig. Gen. USAF Reserves) is a Senior Fellow and Co-founder of the National Institute for Deterrence Studies where he consults on education, training, leadership, and national security.

He has over 30 years of Joint military experience including Presidential Strike Advisor, Deputy Director of Operations in the National Military Command Center, and most recently as Airborne Emergency Action Officer at USSTRATCOM. He has lectured and served on faculty or as senior mentor at National Defense University, Louisiana Tech University, and the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) where he authored and conducted the first USAF Nuclear Command, Control, and Communication (NC3) Executive Course.

He serves as Adjunct Professor of Nuclear Deterrence and Assurance, School of Strategic Force Studies, Air Force Institute of Technology and published research on Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO) and Joint All-Domain Command and Control in the Guide to Nuclear Deterrence in the Age of Great-Power Competition and oversaw JADO curriculum development for the AFIT School of Strategic Force Studies.

Mr. Murphy has completed course work at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, holds a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Defense and Strategic Studies at Missouri State University and serves as Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, USSTRATCOM.
